This baby emperor penguin stands 18cm tall and is made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Emperor chicks have a soft grey down with a dark head and a white face patch, and Keel have captured that look beautifully in recycled plush — the body is pale and wonderfully fluffy, the head darker, and the face finished with small embroidered eyes and a neat beak. Around ten 500ml bottles were recycled to create the fibre for this one toy. Because the eyes are embroidered rather than plastic, he is safe for babies from birth, which makes him a genuinely thoughtful first toy rather than just a shelf ornament. He sits upright on his own and has the slightly top-heavy, unsteady look of a real chick, which is a large part of his charm.
